PCS Technician – Technical

About the role

We are looking for a PCS Technician, to support the stable operation of the PCS control systems assets including both software and hardware. This includes planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing PCS level 1 to level 3 automation systems while ensuring minimal downtime. The person will also diagnose, resolve, and document PCS problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user training and support where required. Share in weekend and callout responsibilities. Stay current with changing technology and implement training as directed by the Section Superintendent PCS.

Reporting to the Superintendent: PCS, you will:

  • Conduct effective maintenance execution of PCS software application across all facets of the section.
  • Assists in repeat failures, problem solving and trouble shooting of plant PCS problems to sustainable availability & Reliability.
  • Apply effective problem-solving techniques to establish root-cause to failure (repeat failures, breakdowns, process instability) and conduct analysis & reporting to management on areas of risk with possible solutions.
  • Ensure root cause to software application failure is managed and mitigated.
  • Support the execution of teamwork walkabouts on Plants to ensure compliance to standards and quality of workmanship.
  • Identify, cost and motivate for technical CAPIN requirements for the plant relating to control and automation.
  • Continuously identify areas of opportunity to improve and optimise the current levels of PCS availability, reliability and process capabilities.
  • Conduct improvement studies and identify opportunities to implement CIP’s and improve business performance.
  • Ensure that systems and SEP’s are geared to allow speedy fault-finding by level 1 PCS maintenance staff
  • PCS systems Software and hardware modification
  • PCS application maintenance and support ( PLC, FTAC, SCADA, PDS)
  • PCS Backup Management (PLC, SCADA, etc.)
  • PCS system’s configuration management
  • System fault finding and resolution (level2 and above)
  • Monitoring of Total PCS systems health
  • Plant PCS change control administration and management
  • Level 1 IT systems fault finding

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • N6 Diploma in Industrial Instrumentation with Trade Test and minimum of 5 years technical experience
  • T3/S4 National Diploma Electrical Engineering with 4 year experience in controls & instrumentation
  • Minimum of 3 years Working knowledge of Mining and Smelting Process environment
  • EB licence
  • Eligible for ECSA registration – advantageous
  • PLC hardware and software for Allen Bradley or Modicon
  • SCADA systems (Wonderware systems, Rockwell and Cimplicity)
  • Industrial Process Instrumentation and Measurement
  • Computing & Network systems
